At the start of 2019 I started blogging. The aim was simple, fifty-two blogs in fifty-two weeks. I managed twelve. In hindsight, I may have slightly underestimated what a commitment a weekly blog would be, but that’s okay. There’s a quote from Les Brown that you should shoot for the moon, even if you miss you will still be among the stars. With twelve blog posts, I at a minimum made it to the top half of an average building.
In the last year I’ve had seven hundred and sixty-eight page views from four hundred users. Half of those are from Britain, thirty percent from the US, and the rest from places as far-reaching as Bolivia, Thailand and Indonesia. I do not understand what my posts offer such a variety of readers, but welcome all the same. Nonsense posts and low ball humour are clearly universal languages.
My most popular blog ended up being 25 life lessons I’ve learned in 25 years. Also my shortest blog too which sends the message loud and clear that I should talk less. Never going to happen. On the other end my most unpopular blog was ‘Narcos the forgotten classic‘. In hindsight it makes sense a blog post about an ignored show also gets ignored. Glad my post had such an impact in getting people to watch.
Outside of blogging I had a busy year. My girlfriend moved in with me, we then moved again into our own place. The biggest argument we’ve had is when I put too much mayonnaise in the tuna salad and when she totally hid my oven glove. I don’t hold grudges but there’s no such thing as too much mayo and I definitely didn’t put the oven glove in the laundry basket. So far so good, we’re still on speaking terms and she didn’t abandon our delightful trip to Vietnam recently. The Hanoi part of the trip is visible in a video on my youtube channel if that takes your fancy.
So there we have it. 2019, the year where you do less than a quarter of what you say you’re going to do and end up having a blast anyway. I’ve renewed all my subscriptions for 2020 so you’ll be sure to see this blog in your inbox, newsfeed or timelines soon enough. I promise to do at least one more than this year…
